Recordo com anys enrere dèiem "i una ema!" com a eufemisme per a no desplegar la plenitud del mot merda. Igualment també podíem dir senzillament 'p', en certs contextos col·loquials, com a eufemisme per a no dir puta.

Això de dir la inicial d'una paraula gruixuda o malsonant no ho fem solament nosaltres... No sé si és un universal lingüístic, però en tot cas, també ho fan en anglès. I amb tanta intensitat que han convertit aquesta inicial en un verb!

Es tracta de la 'f' inicial de fuck o fucking. Enlloc de dir que el fotut cotxe no engega (o el puto cotxe!), que el seu cas hauria de ser the fucking car won’t start, diuen the effing car won’t start.

Així, potser la traducció del puto amo de quan Guardiola va qualificar l'actitud de Mourinho a la roda de premsa, potser s'hauria pogut traduir he is the effing boss!

Effing, del verb eff, prové de la lletra efa (ef). Per això, també es pot escriure f-ing:

F-ing mod. fucking. (Usually objectionable.)  What an effing stupid idea!  Who is that F-ing idiot.
